Over a kitchen island: hang pendants with the bottom about 30–36″ (76–91 cm) above the worktop. Two pendants suit most islands up to about 6 ft (1.8 m); use three for longer islands, spaced evenly and at least 6″ (15 cm) in from each end.
Over a dining table: the same height, 30–36″ above the table, with one large pendant or a row of smaller ones.
Elsewhere: keep about 7 ft (2.1 m) of clearance in walkways. Most pendants have an adjustable cord or chain; the maximum drop is listed on each product.
Every light lists its size in inches and centimetres, the bulb base and whether bulbs are included, and is supplied for your country's voltage. Hard-wired fittings should be installed by a qualified electrician. More in our kitchen island pendant guide.
How many pendants should I hang over a kitchen island?
A common choice is two larger pendants or three smaller ones, spaced about 24-30" (60-75 cm) apart, with the bottom 30-36" (75-90 cm) above the counter. Most of our best-selling pendants are single-light fixtures, many 5-14" wide, which work well in groups.
How long is the cord or chain?
It's listed in each product's specifications. On our best sellers it's most often between 39" and 59" (1-1.5 m), and the hanging height is set during installation.
Are bulbs included?
On most pendants, no. The most common base is E26/E27 (medium), and some models have built-in LEDs. "Bulb Included" in the specifications tells you which.
Are they dimmable?
Yes, pendants with standard sockets are dimmable with dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch.
Can I order a custom cord length or color?
Possibly. We handle customisation case by case, depending on what you need. Email hello@clearhalo.com with the product link, your measurements and the color you want, and we'll tell you what's possible before you order.
