Choosing a modern chandelier

Shape: round rings and sputniks suit square rooms and round tables; linear chandeliers suit long dining tables and kitchen islands; tiered and cascading designs suit high ceilings and stairwells.

Size: add the room's length and width in feet for a good diameter in inches. Over a table, choose about half to two thirds of the table's width, or a linear light about 12″ (30 cm) shorter than the table.

LED: integrated LED designs need no bulbs; check each product for colour temperature and whether it works with a dimmer.

Every light lists its size in inches and centimetres, the bulb base and whether bulbs are included, and is supplied for your country's voltage. Hard-wired fittings should be installed by a qualified electrician.

Chandeliers: frequently asked questions

What size chandelier do I need?
A common guide is a chandelier about half to two-thirds the width of your dining table. For a room, add its length and width in feet; the total is a good diameter in inches. Our chandeliers run from compact designs around 12" wide to statement pieces over 39" wide, and every listing gives the width and height.
How high should a chandelier hang?
Over a dining table, a common guide is 30-36" (75-90 cm) from the tabletop to the bottom of the chandelier. In walkways, leave at least 7 ft (2.1 m) of clearance. Most of our chandeliers hang on a chain, cord or downrods, with the length listed in the specifications.
What bulbs do your chandeliers use?
Candelabra E12/E14 and medium E26/E27 bases are the most common, followed by built-in LED and G9. Bulbs are not included on about three-quarters of our best sellers, so check "Bulb Included" before you order.
Are they dimmable?
Yes. Our chandeliers with standard sockets are dimmable with dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch.
Can I get a different chain length or finish?
